Meteorologist

  • Present forecast on green screen during weekends, and fill in for all other shifts to help the team keep consistency and trusted coverage for our viewers.
  • Report live in the field for severe weather events including the major lake effect snow storms in 2017-2018, and historic flooding of February 2018.
  • Pitch weather story ideas during the morning meeting, three days per week, covering anything from national weather events to local weather events or topics.
  • Explain the science behind all kinds of weather in a creative way, and showing how it impacts Michiana
  • Use “3D graphics” to display data or visualize a concept while out in the field.
  • Track severe weather, utilizing Facebook live, and breaking in during national television.
  • Represent the station while emceeing and participating in local events
  • Received an Emmy nomination from the Chicago/Midwest NATAS for a weather series that our weather team put together called Into The Storm, in which I contributed one of the four stories.
  • Visited over 20 schools per year, on my own, for our weather team’s productions of Project Tornado and Project Blizzard.
  • Co-wrote booklets for each production
  • Explained the science, safety and impacts that both severe weather and winter weather have on the Michiana community.
  • Lead interactive presentations for groups of classroom size to 400+ student, all school assemblies.

Weekend Meteorologist/Full-time Reporter

  • Forecasted for the KNBN weather team
  • Created and assembled graphics using WSI TruVu Max for weather newscasts
  • Determined the weather story and communicate it thoroughly in the 10pm weekend newscasts
  • Brainstormed story ideas, conduct interviews and recorded all interviews and b-roll using DVC Pro video camera
  • Edited packages and vo/sots using Final Cut Pro 7
  • Published weather information on Facebook, Twitter, the NewsCenter1 weather page and the radio
  • Advanced from number 4 meteorologist to number 3 weekend anchor meteorologist in three months

  • Partnered directly with the Chief Meteorologist to develop graphics and customize data using WSI’s Fusion Rundown to be aired on the 4:30, 5:00 and 6:00 o’clock newscasts
  • Constructed graphics on WSI’s Fusion Studio and created movies on 3-D Live
  • Responsible for updating text and video on the weather page of WCIA’s website

Field Studies of Atmospheric Convection, May 20-June 2, 2013

  • Participated in a three week field studies course through the UIUC Department of Atmospheric Sciences
  • Forecasted and nowcasted severe weather multiple times a day, and observed several severe weather events across the Midwest including two OKC tornado disasters
  • Obtained essential knowledge of late Spring and early Summer severe convective events by analyzing Nexrad radar data, forecast model data, and surface and upper air observations
