Select Achievements Created the “Spencer Solves It” franchise, the only project of its kind in Houston that actually helps solve our viewers’ serious problems, showing the problem, resolution, and viewer gratitude on air. A segment always filled with human-to-human connection and emotion. Created the “KPRC2 Teen Heart Check” program in Houston (which I originally created in Detroit) by partnering with the Cody Stevens Foundation, local hospitals, and doctors to test teen athletes, free of charge, for hidden heart defects that could kill them at any moment. In 12 years, offering six (6) screenings/year, we have tested over 25,000 athletes, and saved the lives of more than 250 young athletes who were found to have deadly, hidden heart defects. Created the “KPRC2 Restaurant Report Card,” a weekly segment where I expose the most serious health code violations at Houston restaurants receiving the worst grades from the Houston Health Department. Focusing on the top 5 worst restaurants each week, I end each segment by highlighting one restaurant that received an A+- rating, giving that restaurant a special award. WXYZ-TV,Detroit, Michigan March 1998 – January 2013 Chief Consumer & Investigative Reporter/Anchor Anchored newscasts and special coverage, delivering authoritative, engaging broadcasts that connected with diverse audiences. Delivered impactful, in-depth investigative reporting on consumer and government corruption problems and solutions, breaking news reporting, creative and demonstrative live reporting, and unique franchise creation. Select Achievements Created and anchored “Call Bill for Action,” a consumer advocacy franchise assisting more than 7,000 Metro Detroit residents annually with unresolved consumer issues and serious problems. Created “The 7 Health Edge Heart Check,” the only program in the U.S. providing six (6) free, in-depth heart screenings a year to high school athletes to uncover hidden heart defects. Created the project with help from a team of heart surgeons, ultimately testing close to 10,000 student athletes. Created “Bill’s Big Dig,” the only project of its kind in the Detroit market. Partnering with the Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb County Sheriff’s departments, we used non-violent jail inmates to shovel the walkways and driveways of hundreds of elderly and handicapped residents after every major snowstorm. Delivered two packaged stories per day, frequently incorporating live shots, all without a producer. WTVG-TV, Toledo, Ohio July 1992 – July 1993 Crime Reporter Specialized in crime and courts reporting, covering high-profile cases and legal proceedings. KTUL-TV, Tulsa, Oklahoma October 1991 – July 1992 Anchor/Reporter Host of the #1-rated “Good Morning Oklahoma,” a 3-hour morning news program airing 5 days a week. Created “Breakfast with Bill,” a franchise where I traveled to small Oklahoma towns every Friday, reporting and anchoring live from a unique restaurant or local event to showcase different towns to expand our viewership. WMUR-TV, Manchester, New Hampshire June 1988 – June 1991 Crime and Political Reporter Covered major crime stories and state political developments. Select Achievements Broke every new development and continually secured exclusive interviews in the Pamela Smart murder case that became a world-wide crime story, I was the first and only television reporter in the Boston television market to land several exclusive interviews with the prime suspect, Pamela Smart, before she was convicted of hiring three (3) of her teenage students to murder her husband. Since then, I have been featured on Dateline, 20/20, Geraldo, Phil Donahue, Hard Copy, and multiple documentaries. KOSA-TV, Odessa, Texas November 1986 – June 1988 General Assignment Reporter Reported on a wide range of local and regional news stories. Select Achievements First reporter to arrive on scene and report live on Baby Jessica McClure falling into an abandoned oil well. Reported live for 58 continuous hours for both KOSA-TV and CBS News Worldwide until Jessica was finally rescued on live TV. First reporter to report live from the Saragosa, TX deadly EF4 tornado.
